To install the HealthMon tool, run
the HealthMon Setup program directly from the Systems Management
Server version 2.0 compact disc.
Insert the SMS 2.0 compact disc into the computer's CD-ROM
drive. SMS Setup starts automatically.
Click Exit to close the startup window.
In the %sms%\HealthMon\<Platform>\Agent\ directory,
double-click Setup.exe. You must run this executable file on each
computer that you want to monitor.
Follow the instructions in the setup wizard.
Switch to the %sms%\HealthMon\<Platform>\Console\
directory, and then double-click Setup.exe.
Follow the instructions in the wizard.
If you want to view HealthMon from within the SMS Administrator
console, you must add the HealthMon snap-in to the console. For
more information, see Add Snap-Ins to the SMS
Administrator Console.
Note If you install HealthMon but do not
add it as a snap-in to the SMS Administrator console, you will not
be able to start it from within the SMS Administrator console. For
more information, see Start HealthMon.
You can remove HealthMon from your
system by using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Additional Requirements
To run HealthMon, you must create a WBEM user account that has
access to the computers you want to monitor. To do so, click the
Start button, point to Programs, Administrative
Tools, and then click User Manager for Domains. Then,
add the appropriate accounts to the WBEM Users group. WBEM is
automatically installed on all SMS servers and clients. However, if
you need to create an account on a computer that is not running
WBEM, you must first run WBEMcore.exe from the
%sms%\HealthMon\<Platform> directory.
On each computer from which you want to collect disk
performance information, you must run Diskperf.exe to enable disk
performance counters. Because disk performance counters can
increase system overhead on slower systems, you should only enable
these counters on computers where the physical disk I/O must be
monitored.
Network interface counters are also disabled by default. To
enable these counters, install the SNMP Service (by using the
Network option in Control Panel). Alternatively, you can
install the Windows NT Resource Kit.
