About Installing Tools

You can install most SMS 2.0 tools by running the SMS Setup program from the Systems Management Server version 2.0 compact disc. To install some tools, however, you must run the setup program specific to the tool.

SMS Tool-Specific Installation Guidelines

The following table includes guidelines that you should keep in mind when installing specific SMS tools.

Network Monitor

You can install Network Monitor by running the SMS Setup program (for more information, see Install Tools), or you can install Network Monitor directly from the SMS compact disc (by running the Network Monitor Setup program).

Note   If you install Network Monitor by running the Network Monitor Setup program rather than running SMS Setup, you will not be able to start Network Monitor and the Monitor Control Tool from within the SMS Administrator console. Instead, you must access these two tools from the Start menu.

HealthMon

You must install HealthMon by running the HealthMon Setup programs directly from the SMS 2.0 compact disc. You cannot install this tool by running the SMS Setup program and then selecting HealthMon as an option. For more information, see Install HealthMon.

Note   If you install HealthMon but do not add it as a snap-in to the SMS Administrator console, you will not be able to start it from within the SMS Administrator console. Instead, you should access this tool from the Start menu. For more information, see Start HealthMon.

SMS Installer

To install SMS Installer, run the SMS Setup program. (For more information, see Install Tools.) After you install this tool, you must copy the %sms%\SMS_Inst directory to your reference computer. To run SMS Installer on the reference computer, run SMSInstl.exe.

Crystal Info for SMS

To Crystal Info, run the SMS Setup program. (For more information, see Install Tools.) You can install Crystal Info on either a primary site server or on an SMS Administrator console-only server.

Note    Upgrading an SMS 1.2 site to SMS 2.0 will not upgrade the SMS 1.2 Crystal Reports feature to Crystal Info for SMS 2.0. When you complete the site server upgrade to SMS 2.0, you must run the SMS 2.0 Setup program again and install the Crystal Info component by selecting the Crystal Reports option.
