The following checklists outline the steps you should take when configuring Asset Intelligence in Configuration Manager 2007 sites after required Asset Intelligence planning has been completed.

Before using these checklists, ensure that you have reviewed the prerequisites for the Asset Intelligence feature. For more information about the prerequisite requirements for Asset Intelligence, see Prerequisites for Asset Intelligence.

Asset Intelligence Configuration Checklist for Configuration Manager 2007

The following checklist provides the steps required to configure Asset Intelligence in Configuration Manager 2007.

Step Reference

By default, in new installations of Configuration Manager 2007, Asset Intelligence information collection is not enabled. To enable the Asset Intelligence feature, at least one of the required hardware inventory reporting classes that Asset Intelligence reports rely on must be enabled.

When a Systems Management Server 2003 SP3 site with the Asset Intelligence feature already installed and enabled is upgraded to Configuration Manager 2007, Asset Intelligence data collection will remain enabled.

Similarly, when a Configuration Manager 2007 site with the Asset Intelligence feature already installed and enabled is upgraded to Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, Asset Intelligence data collection will remain enabled.

Note
Asset Intelligence reports that depend on the hardware inventory classes enabled during this step will not display data until clients have successfully completed a hardware inventory cycle using the updated inventory reporting policy generated by enabling Asset Intelligence reporting classes.

How to Enable Asset Intelligence

Note
The procedures in this topic detail the steps necessary to enable Asset Intelligence in both Configuration Manager 2007 and Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 installations.

To enable data to be collected for Asset Intelligence console usage and Client Access License (CAL) reports, CAL usage data collection must be enabled in the Configuration.mof hardware inventory settings file and computer security policy logon settings must be configured to enable auditing of success logon events.

The procedures in this topic detail the steps necessary to disable Asset Intelligence both in Configuration Manager 2007 and in Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 installations.

Asset Intelligence Configuration Checklist for Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 or Later

The following checklist provides the steps required to configure Asset Intelligence in Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 or later in addition to the configuration steps required for Asset Intelligence in Configuration Manager 2007.

Step Reference

To enable software license usage reports in Asset Intelligence, software licenses must be imported into the Asset Intelligence catalog.

Microsoft and non-Microsoft software licenses can be imported into the Asset Intelligence catalog using the Asset Intelligence License Import Wizard.

How to Import Software License Information

To connect to System Center Online for dynamic Asset Intelligence catalog updates, an Asset Intelligence Synchronization point site system role must be installed as a site system for the central site of the hierarchy.

Note

How to Install an Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point

To perform scheduled Asset Intelligence catalog synchronizations with System Center Online, the Asset Intelligence synchronization point must be enabled and a synchronization schedule must be specified.

Note

How to Enable the Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point

To disable scheduled Asset Intelligence catalog synchronization with System Center Online, the Asset Intelligence synchronization point must be disabled.

If the Asset Intelligence synchronization point is not configured to perform scheduled synchronizations with System Center Online, the Asset Intelligence catalog must be manually synchronized with System Center Online.
