When you collect inventory in a site, SMS maintains an inventory record for each client in the SMS site database. You can use Resource Explorer to view the following information for any client in any site:
Columns that are empty can indicate either that Hardware Inventory Agent did not collect data from the client or that the data was collected but contains a null value.
If you are using SMS 1.2 sites Resource Explorer displays the hardware inventory classes and properties selected as the default information to be gathered from clients. However, several classes and properties in the SMS 2.0 inventory do not have corresponding SMS 1.2 equivalents. Therefore, these classes and properties will contain blanks or zeros when inventory for the SMS 1.2 client is viewed. If hardware inventory is enabled on an SMS 1.2 client, complete data will be provided if that client is upgraded to SMS 2.0 (after that client completes its first full inventory cycle as an SMS 2.0 client).
Resource Explorer is a tool that opens in its own MMC window after you start it from the SMS Administrator console. The contents of the Resource Explorer details pane vary based on what you select in the console tree.
