In Resource Explorer, you use the Hardware item to view
the client's hardware inventory. The Hardware item contains
information that ranges from specifics about the manufacturer and
type of hardware internals to the free space available on each
disk. You can use this information to determine which targets to
use for a software distribution, when to perform remote
troubleshooting, or when to identify hardware available in a
specific site.
By default, Hardware contains the following classes. (See
the SMS_def.mof for the complete list.)
Boot Configuration
The client boot directory and any directories for temporary
files.
CDROM Drive
Information about the client CD-ROM drives, such as the drive
letter assigned to the CD-ROM and the manufacturer.
Computer System
Information about the client computer, such as the name of the
computer manufacturer, the system role, and the computer name.
Disk Drives
Client hard drive information, such as the manufacturer, media
type, partitions, and total sectors.
Disk Partitions
Information about any partitions on the client, such as the
device ID, name, description, size, and type.
Environment
The environment variables on the client, per user. For example,
OS, windir, and TEMP.
Keyboard
The name, description, and ID for the keyboard used at the
client.
IRQ Resources
The interrupt request table on the client.
Logical Disk
Information about the logical disk drives on the client, such
as the volume names and file systems.
Memory
Information about the memory configuration on the client,
including page file space and virtual memory.
Motherboard
Information about primary and secondary bus types on the
client.
Network Adapter
Information about the network adapters on the client, such as
the type of adapter and its MAC address.
Network Adapter Configuration
Information about the client's network protocol configuration,
such as the IP address and default IP gateway.
Note The IP Subnet column
actually lists the IP subnet mask.
Network Client
The type of network that the client runs.
Network Protocols
Information about the protocols running on the client, such as
name, description, and status.
Operating System
Information about the client operating system, such as name,
manufacturer, version, and date of installation.
Parallel Ports
Information about the client's parallel ports, such as name and
availability.
PC BIOS
Information about the client BIOS, such as name, release date,
and version.
Pointing Devices
Information about the client's mouse, such as name, hardware
type, and the number of buttons.
Processor
Client processor information, including the family (Intel, for
example), manufacturer, and version.
SCSI Controller
The name, manufacturer, driver name, and status for each SCSI
controller on the client.
Serial Port Configuration
Information about the serial port configuration on the client,
such as baud rates, parity values, and stop bits.
Note SMS reports the actual speed of
the ports; Control Panel on the client lists the virtual speed.
Serial Ports
Information about the serial ports on the client, such as
device ID, description, and maximum baud rate.
Services
The name, type, status, start mode, and state of each service
running on the client.
System
Information about the client system, such as the computer's
domain, name, and unique SMS ID.
System Drivers
The name, status, start mode, and state of each system driver
on the client.
Time Zone
The time zone set for the client.
NoteBias is the number of
minutes from Greenwich Mean Time.
Video Configuration
Information about the client video adapter and monitor. This
information includes the adapter type, the chip type, the color
resolution, installed display drivers, monitor manufacturer, screen
height and width, and horizontal and vertical resolution.
Workstation Status
Information about when hardware inventory was last collected on
this client.
