Configuration categories in Configuration Manager 2007 are administrator-defined logical groupings ithat you can use to help you more easily manage configuration baselines and configuration items in the Configuration Manager console.
Use the following technique to help you manage configuration baselines and configuration items so that you can locate them easily when you need to modify or verify their configuration.
To use assigned categories to manage configuration baselines and configuration items

In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management.

To manage configuration baselines, click Configuration Baselines. To manage configuration items, click Configuration Items.

Locate the column Categories to display the categories that have been assigned to the configuration baselines or configuration items.

To sort by ascending or descending order of category name, click the Categories column.

To filter the results of all configuration baselines or configuration items by assigned category, enter the name of the category in Look for, select Categories from Search in, and then click Find Now. Click Clear when you want to return to displaying all configuration baselines or configuration items.
