The Update Repository console tree node and subnodes in the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 console are where all of the synchronized software updates are located. As the console tree node is expanded, the Search Folders, update classifications, vendors, and product subnodes are displayed. You can navigate to the Update Repository console tree node and subnodes as follows: System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Updates / Update Repository.

Before information is available in any of the Update Repository console tree nodes, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Enable the Software Updates Client Agent (enabled by default).

  2. Enable and configure the active software update point.

  3. Specify at least one update classification, product, and language; and initiate update synchronization. Depending on how many updates are synchronized, this process might take a long time to complete.

For details about configuring software updates, see Administrator Checklist: Configuring Software Updates.

After you click the Update Repository console tree node or subnodes, the Configuration Manager console contains the following elements:

The following sections describe the Update Repository console tree node and subnodes.

Update Repository

The Update Repository console tree node in Configuration Manager 2007 displays the update classifications for which software updates have been synchronized, such as security updates, critical updates, service packs, tools, and so on, as well as Search Folders.

Search Folders

The Search Folders console tree node displays the available search folders, which are configured with specific search criteria and display the synchronized software updates that meet these criteria. Search folders created at a parent site are replicated down the hierarchy. The properties for replicated search folders cannot be modified at child sites, but unlike other objects in Configuration Manager, search folder objects at child sites do not display with a lock symbol. For more information about Search Folders, see How to Configure Search Folders for Software Updates.

Classification Name

The update classification console tree nodes in Configuration Manager 2007 display the vendors for which software updates have been synchronized, such as Microsoft, as well as the All Updates node. Click the All Updates node to show all the software updates that are associated with the selected classification.

Vendor Name

The vendor console tree nodes display the vendor products for which software updates have been synchronized, such as Office 2003 or Windows Vista, as well as All Updates.
