Configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007 must be assigned to one or more collections of computers before client computers in those collections can assess their compliance with the configuration baseline.

Use the Assign Configuration Baseline Wizard to define configuration baseline assignments, which includes adding or removing configuration baselines from assignments in addition to specifying the evaluation schedule.

Note
After you have assigned a configuration baseline to a collection, you can view the selected collection in the configuration baseline properties, where you can modify the option to include subcollections and also modify the schedule. However, you must use the Assign Configuration Baseline Wizard again to assign the baseline to a new collection.

You can launch the Assign Configuration Baseline Wizard from two different locations in the Configuration Manager console:

To assign a configuration baseline to a collection from the Desired Configuration Management, Configuration Baselines node

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management / Configuration Baselines.

  2. Right-click the configuration baseline you want to assign, and then click Assign to a Collection to launch the Assign Configuration Baseline Wizard.

  3. In the Choose Collection page, either type in the name of the collection to which you want to assign the configuration baseline or click Browse to select the collection from the Browse Collection dialog box, and click OK.

    Note
If there are users in the selected collection, configuration baselines will not be evaluated by them. Configuration baselines are evaluated by targeted computers and not users.
  4. Complete the Assign Configuration Baseline Wizard.
