Adding storage systems

To add a storage system to ESI:

  1. In the left pane of the ESI window, select EMC Storage Integrator > Storage Systems.

  1. In the Actions pane, click Add Storage System.

  2. In the Add Storage System dialog box, specify the following for the storage system.

Field

Description

System Type

Type of storage system to add

Friendly Name

Short name for the storage system that is unique across different storage systems

Note: The credentials required for each storage system are different. Fields marked with an * are required. The following tables list the storage system parameters for supported storage systems.

For VNXe storage systems, specify the following.

Field

Description

Management Server IP Address

IP address for the VNXe management server

Username

Username for the storage system

Password

Password for the storage system

For VNX-block and CX4 storage systems, specify the following.

Field

Password

Password for the storage system

SPA's IP Address

IP address of SP A

SPB's IP Address

Port Number (VNX-Block or CX4)

For VNX-CIFS storage systems, specify the following.

Field

Description

Username

Note: If username has changed, use the nsadmin or equivalent username and password.

Port Number

Control station port number. The default port is automatically selected. You can leave it empty to use the default port.

Add Host Key if Missing

Select this checkbox when adding a VNX-CIFS system for the first time to ESI 3.0. ESI uses Secure Shell (SSH) to establish a connection with the VNX control station, which uses the storage system host key for authentication.

After adding the system the first time, ESI stores the host key and then you can choose to clear this checkbox.

Note: If ESI is missing the correct host key data and this checkbox is not selected, the connection will fail and cause a "host key is missing" error.

Replace Host Key if Changed

If you add the system with this setting, ESI always accepts the new host key data, and updates the key. Even if the host key data does not match from the previous connection, ESI connects and updates the key.

Note: This choice can cause a security risk.

To update ESI with the host key changes without causing a security risk, you can select the checkbox, click Test Connection, and then clear the checkbox before adding the storage system to ESI.

For VNX storage systems with both block and file storage, specify the following.

Field

Block–Username

Block username of the storage system

Block–Password

Block password of the storage system

SPA’s IP address
