The Look for and Search in options allow you to filter the configuration baselines or configuration items in Configuration Manager 2007 that are displayed in their respective nodes. Use the following technique to help you manage configuration baselines and configuration items so that you can locate them easily when you need to modify or verify their configuration.

To use Look for and Search in to manage configuration baselines and configuration items

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management.

  2. To manage configuration baselines, click the Configuration Baselines node. To manage configuration items, click the Configuration Items node.

  3. In Look for, enter any part of a text string that helps to filter or identify the configuration baseline or configuration item you need, select from Search in the column for the search criteria (a specific column or all columns), and then click Find Now. The more specific your search string, the more specific the results. For example, in the Configuration Items display, the letter I when you select Type from Search in will return results for configurations items that have a type of Application or Operating System. However, if you enter App with the same Search in criteria, the results will return only configuration items of the type Application.

    Note
The Look for facility does not extend further than the node in which it is being used. For example, if you are using it in the Configuration Items node, it will not find configuration baselines in the Configuration Baselines node. It also cannot find software updates configuration items that are located in the Software Updates node.
  4. Click Look for to select previous searches. Up to 10 previous searches can be stored.

  5. As a visual indicator that the display is filtered, the title bar will display Filtered view, display x items out of y, where x is the number of configuration baselines or configuration items that match your filter, and y is the total number of unfiltered configuration baselines items or configuration items. Click Clear when you want to return to displaying all configuration baselines or configuration items.

    Note
For more information about the options on the desired configuration management home pages, see Configuration Baselines Home Page and Configuration Items Home Page.
