The Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 computer-based mobile device client deployment folder contains files required to deploy the mobile device client to all supported mobile devices. Once created, the folder can be distributed to computers that synchronize with mobile devices using Mobile Device Center (Vista) or ActiveSync (Windows XP and earlier) using Configuration Manager 2007 software distribution or other distribution methods. The client installation program (DMClientXfer.exe) then detects the platform of the connected mobile device and installs the correct mobile device client.

Procedure

To create a computer-based mobile device client deployment folder, perform the following steps:

To create a computer-based mobile device client deployment folder

  1. Create a new folder to contain the mobile device client deployment files.

  2. Into the new folder copy all the files in the client transfer folder located at <InstallationFolder> \ DeviceClientDeployment \ ClientTransfer \ <LanguageCode>.

  3. Into the new folder copy the following files located in <InstallationFolder> \ DeviceClientDeployment \ ClientTransfer:

    • DMClientXfer.exe

    • DMCommonInstaller.exe

    • DMCommonInstaller.ini

For more information, see Mobile Device Client Configuration Values for DMCommonInstaller.ini and ClientSettings.ini. The DMCommonInstaller.ini file must be edited for your environment.

  4. In Native or server authentication mode, include all necessary certificates in the new folder. For more information on certificates, see Deploying Certificates to Mobile Device Clients.

Note
The DMCommonInstaller.ini file must be properly configured for the environment. For more information, see How to Edit the DMCommonInstaller.ini File for Mobile Device Management.
