About Recollecting Complete Software Inventory on a Client

After the initial inventory, software inventory cycles typically result in a delta inventory file. Software Inventory Agent repeats a complete software inventory on a client only if:

• The inventory file (Sinvdat.sid) is corrupted.

• If this is the case, SMS copies the file to the Badsinv directory on the site server.

• The inventory file tries to update data that does not exist in the database.
• The client becomes a member of a different site.

• The new site will need the complete inventory because the delta inventory file would not have sufficient information for the new site to process.

• The level of reporting detail for the site (as specified in the Software Inventory Client Agent Properties dialog box) changes (for example, when product version information is requested or eliminated).

When any of these occur, Software Inventory Agent generates a complete inventory file (Sinvdat.sic), as it did during the initial inventory.
