About Network Discovery

Network Discovery can be configured and run from any SMS site server in your SMS system. By default, only the server's subnet and local domain are discovered. However, you can discover other subnets and domains, or even all subnets and domains within a specified number of router hops.

Note    The more subnets and domains are discovered, the more network traffic is generated. To mitigate network impact, it might be prudent to schedule several small discoveries instead of a single large one. However, the small discoveries would run serially, and you would have to change the scope of Network Discovery before re-running it each time.

To configure Network Discovery effectively, you must know the general topology of your network, but you can use Network Discovery to discover your network's topology. After you know your network's topology, you can configure and run Network Discovery to discover resources.
