Right-click Network Discovery, and then click
Properties.
In the Network Discovery Properties dialog box, complete
the settings in the following tabs:
Enable and specify the type of Network Discovery in the
General tab.
Specify community names and the number of router hops that
Network Discovery should make in the SNMP tab. If you are unsure about how
many router hops to specify, select a small number (you can
increase it later). For more information, see the example.
Specify when Network Discovery should run in the Schedule tab. Generally, Network
Discovery generates large amounts of network traffic, so it is best
to run it when you anticipate your network being lightly
loaded.
In addition to searching the local domain, local subnet, and
any other subnets found within the number of router hops specified,
Network Discovery can search:
By default, Network Discovery gets information from the SNMP
devices in the local subnet and any other subnets found within the
number of router hops specified, and from the Microsoft DHCP server
(if any) used by the server running Network Discovery. Network
Discovery can also get network information from:
Microsoft
DHCP servers that you specify on the DHCP tab.
Note: If the
server that is running Network Discovery is using a static IP
address, rather than leasing one from a DHCP server, then Network
Discovery will not communicate with any DHCP servers unless you
specify them on the DHCP tab of the Network Discovery
Properties dialog box.
