A Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 site usually requires a management point and clients and might require additional site system roles such as fallback status points, reporting points, and server locator points. If you are using Configuration Manager 2007 native mode, you must also deploy certificates for native mode authentication. Some client agents are configured by default, but you might want to configure additional client agents or modify the default client configurations.

Some features of Configuration Manager 2007, such as software updates, require extensive preparation prior to configuring the options in the Configuration Manager 2007 console, while other features, such as software metering, are ready to use with no additional preparation. Some features also have dependencies on technologies external to Configuration Manager 2007.

While you can deploy clients and features in any order, deploying a few test clients before planning and deploying a Configuration Manager 2007 feature allows you to verify that the fundamentals of the site are in place.
