If the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 site requires a RAS sender instead of the standard sender, you must configure an account with permissions to initiate a remote access connection.

The RAS sender account could be the same account as the Site Address account, if it has sufficient permissions; however, you cannot use the site server computer account because you must specify the password in the Configuration Manager 2007 console.

Required Rights and Permissions

This account must have rights to initiate a remote access connection.

Account and Password Creation

The account is not automatically created. The Configuration Manager 2007 administrator creates as many accounts as needed for the RAS sender addresses and manages the passwords.

Account Location

The account can be created anywhere as long as it has permissions to initiate a remote access connection for the site server.

Account Maintenance

The administrator changes the account or password in the operating system, and then configures Configuration Manager 2007 to use the new account or password. The changes will take effect the next time the RAS sender polls for new send requests.

Security Best Practices

Use the same account for the RAS Sender Phone Book account as for the Site Address account.
