Within Configuration Manager 2007, software packages can be delivered in several ways, using a number of different procedures. However, before the software can be distributed to the clients, a number of steps must be taken to configure the software distribution functionality of Configuration Manager. Once configured, each of the software distribution methods may vary in specifics, but nevertheless each follows a fairly standard pattern consisting of creating a package, creating one or more programs for that package, loading the package to distribution points for dissemination, and creating an advertisement to distribute the programs to specific clients or groups of clients at a given time.
The following flowchart provides a high level visual workflow for the overall process involved in distributing software to clients using Configuration Manager, and the links at the end of this document provide detailed information about the process.
