To distribute packages to client computers, Configuration Manager 2007 sends a copy of the package data to distribution points from which the clients download the package. When one or more distribution points have been selected for the package, the source files and other data will be stored on that distribution point as specified when the package was created.

Note
You must have Distribute permission for the Package Security object type to send a package to a distribution point. For more information about security permissions, see Classes and Instances for Object Security in Configuration Manager.

To send a package to distribution points

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Distribution / Packages.

  2. Expand the package that you want to send to a distribution point, right-click Distribution Points, and then click Manage Distribution Points.

  3. Use the Manage Distribution Points Wizard to select which distribution points to which you want to send the package.

For information about this wizard, see Manage Distribution Points Wizard.

    Note
You can also use the New Distribution Points Wizard to send a package to a distribution point. For more information about this wizard, see New Distribution Points Wizard.
