When a Configuration Manager 2007 site is enabled for Wake On LAN, the following activities can be enabled for Wake On LAN:

Only computers that require software updates enabled for Wake On LAN are sent wake-up packets. For example, if a particular software update is targeted to the All Systems collection but only a few computers require the software update, only those few computers are woken up rather than all the computers in the collection. However, advertisements always run on the targeted computers and so computers that are targeted with advertisements that are configured for Wake On LAN will always be sent wake-up packets.

To determine which computers will be sent wake-up packets, run the following report: All computers targeted for Wake On LAN activity.

To run this report, follow the steps in the procedure shown below.

To identify which computers will be woken up by running a report

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Reporting / Reports.

  2. In the Reports node, click the Category column to sort the reports so that you can more easily find the reports relating to Wake On LAN.
