Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 must be running on the distribution point enabled for multicast.

Windows Deployment Services (WDS)

The Windows Deployment Services for Windows 2008 must be installed before multicast is enabled on the distribution point server. The WDS transport server role service is required for multicast operating system deployment support. In Server Manager under Windows Server 2008 in the WDS role install the Transport Server role service.

Internet Information Services (IIS) with extensions

Internet Information Services must be installed before multicast is enabled on the distribution point server. ISAPI extensions and IIS 6 management compatibility must be installed.

Network firewall configuration

Network firewalls must be enabled so that UDP ports used by multicast for operating system deployment are accessible by Configuration Manager 2007 clients. For information about configuring these ports, see ConfigMgr Distribution Point Properties: Multicast Tab.

Allow clients to transfer content from this distribution point using BITS, HTTP, and HTTPS (required for device clients and Internet-based clients)

Operating system deployment package transfer using IIS requires that Allow clients to transfer content from this distribution point using BITS, HTTP, and HTTPS (required for device clients and Internet-based clients) be enable. Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and Configuration Manager 2007 R2

The site server must have both Configuration Manager 2007 SP1 and Configuration Manager 2007 R2 installed.

Configuration Manager 2007 operating system deployment

The Configuration Manager site must be configured to support operating system deployment. For more information, see Prerequisites for Operating System Deployment and Configuring Operating System Deployment.
