Use the General tab of the Configuration Manager 2007 ConfigMgr distribution point Properties dialog box to specify the settings for a distribution point in the Configuration Manager site. This tab can also be used to add the distribution role to a new or existing distribution point group, as well as to designate the distribution point as a branch distribution point.

Note
Communication settings options are available only if the site system is enabled as a standard distribution point.

The General tab contains the following elements:

Enable as a standard distribution point

Enables this site system as a standard distribution point. This option is available only on server site systems.
Allow clients to transfer content from this distribution point using BITS, HTTP, and HTTPS

Specifies whether clients connecting to this distribution point can transfer contents using Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), HTTP, or HTTPS. This option must be selected for device clients and Internet-based clients. You can specify exactly which client type this applies to by selecting the appropriate option from the drop-down list.
Important
You must download, install, and configure WebDAV manually on BITS-enabled distribution points running Windows Server 2008. For more information, see How to Configure Windows Server 2008 for Site Systems.
Allow clients to connect anonymously (Required for mobile device clients)

Mobile devices require this option to be configured when the site is in mixed mode. This option is not configurable when the site is in native mode. For more information about mixed and native modes in Configuration Manager 2007, see Configuration Manager Site Modes.
Enable as branch distribution point

Enables this site system as a branch distribution point. This option is available only on server site systems that are Configuration Manager clients. If this option is not enabled, you should check the branch distribution prerequisites to ensure that all prerequisites have been met. For more information, see Prerequisites for Software Distribution.A branch distribution point can be enabled on a Configuration Manager client that is either a server-class or a workstation-class computer, but some limitations might be imposed on the latter depending on the operating system being used. For more information, see About Standard and Branch Distribution Points.
Note
If you convert this site from a standard distribution point to a branch distribution point, it cannot be changed back to a standard distribution point without first removing the branch distribution point role.
Disk partition

Specifies the partition information that will be used for storing packages on the branch distribution point. This option is available only on server site systems. The following configuration options are available for setting disk partitioning:
  • Use specific partition: This option allows you to specify whether a specific partition on the client computer hosting the branch distribution point will be used for storing packages. If this option is selected, you must also select the partition from the drop-down list. The package directory name will be SMSPKG<drive letter>$.

    Note
If no specific partition is selected, packages will be downloaded and installed on the partition with the largest amount of free space by default.
  • Space reserved for operating system (MB): Specifies how much of the selected partition should be reserved on the client computer for the operating system and other files. All other space on the partition could be used for storing packages. If no specific partition is selected, the space reserved value will apply to the default partition used.

Group Membership

Specifies the distribution point groups in the Configuration Manager site and indicates whether the current site system is currently a member of each group. The following options are available for managing these distribution point groups:
  • New icon: Opens the Distribution Point Group dialog box to add a new distribution point group for the Configuration Manager site. When a new group is created, the current site system will be added to that group by default.

  • Properties icon: Opens the Distribution Point Group dialog box for the selected group to view or modify this distribution point's membership in the group.

  • Delete icon: Deletes a specific group from the Configuration Manager site. If this option is selected, a confirmation dialog box will appear before the distribution point group is actually deleted.

  • Membership icon: Includes or excludes this site system from the selected distribution point group.

The following columns are displayed for each distribution point displayed:
  • Member: Specifies whether the current site system is included in the selected distribution point group.

  • Group: Specifies the name of the selected distribution point group.
