Computers are assigned as clients to Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 sites according to the boundaries configured in the Configuration Manager console. Boundaries are defined by Internet Protocol (IP) subnets, Active Directory site names, IPv6 Prefix, or IP ranges.

When creating Configuration Manager 2007 boundaries, you must also specify the type of network connection that the boundary will operate on. You must decide whether the site boundary will be used for either a Slow or unreliable or Fast (LAN) network connection.

To add a new boundary

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> – <site name> / Site Settings / Boundaries.

  2. On the New Boundary properties page, enter the following information:

    • Description

    • Site Code

    • Boundary Type

    • Boundary-type specific settings

  3. Select the network connection type, either Slow or unreliable or Fast (LAN).

    Note
When new boundaries are added, it might take up to a minute for the boundary information displayed in the Configuration Manager console to update. When creating boundaries for child sites, the boundary changes must be updated at the child site and replicated back to the parent site before they appear in the Configuration Manager console at the parent site.

To modify a boundary

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> – <site name> / Site Settings / Boundaries.

  2. In the console results pane, right-click the boundary that you want to modify and click Properties.

  3. Modify the site boundary information as required on the boundary properties General and Protected tabs.

To delete a boundary

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> – <site name> / Site Settings / Boundaries.

  2. In the console results pane, right-click the boundary name that you would like to delete and click Delete.

  3. Confirm that you want to delete the boundary by clicking Yes on the delete confirmation dialog box.
