Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 is a collection of features that help you fulfill your business requirements. After you deploy your site and install your clients, Configuration Manager 2007 will not fulfill any business functions unless you enable the features. Some features can be used individually with little or no dependence on other features. For example, after you enable remote control, you can start using the Configuration Manager 2007 console to control Configuration Manager 2007 client computers without additional configuration. On the other hand, if you want to use Network Access Protection, you have to have software updates properly configured, and for software updates to be properly configured, you need to install Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), configure at least one Configuration Manager 2007 distribution point, and enable the hardware inventory client agent.

This section contains information about how to understand, plan, configure, and operate each feature. Dependencies on Configuration Manager 2007 and Windows technology are indicated where required.

Many features also contain information about security and privacy. A compilation of security and privacy information for all features is included in the section "Security and Privacy for Configuration Manager 2007," along with security information that is not feature specific.
