Using BITS-enabled distribution points in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 helps control bandwidth throttling between the clients and distribution points. Enabling the BITS setting does not guarantee that the client will always download content from the distribution point using BITS. However, if this setting is not enabled, the client will never download packages using BITS.

You cannot configure branch distribution points to be BITS-enabled. You must make the distribution point BITS-enabled to support Internet-based clients and mobile device clients.

Important
You must download, install, and configure WebDAV manually on BITS-enabled distribution points running Windows Server 2008. For more information, see How to Configure Windows Server 2008 for Site Systems.

To configure a distribution point to be BITS-enabled

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Site Management / <site code> - <site name> / Site Settings / Site Systems.

  2. Expand the site system server that is configured with the distribution point role.

  3. In the results pane, right-click ConfigMgr distribution point, and then select Properties.

  4. On the General tab, select the option Allow clients to transfer content from this distribution point using BITS, HTTP, and HTTPS (required for device clients and Internet-based clients).

  5. Click OK.

    Note
For more information about the options in this dialog box, see ConfigMgr Distribution Point Properties: General Tab.
