About Product Compliance Types and Levels

Product compliance types
Product compliance types are broad categories within which all software installed on SMS site servers and clients can be tested. For example, you might want to know which computers and software in your organization might be affected by the Year 2000 problem. Similarly, you might want to know which systems in your organization are not equipped to do business in the new European currency, the Euro. You can create new product compliance types at any time by adding information to the product compliance database.

Important     Each product listed for a product compliance type must be given exactly the same type name in the database. For example, "Euro" and "ECU" will reflect two separate product compliance types.

Product compliance levels
Product compliance levels are determined within a single product compliance type. This category reflects how well the listed products reflect compliance within the type. For example, five product compliance levels are possible for the Year 2000 compliance type: Compliant, Compliant with minor issues, Not compliant, Not yet tested, and Will not test. Other product compliance types might have the same or similar product compliance levels.

Important     Product compliance levels must be entered into the product compliance database in exactly the same way for each instance of a product compliance type. If "will never test" is entered for one product, and "never test" is entered for a second product, the products will be listed with different compliance levels.
