The Event to Trap Translator window lists events that are to be
translated to Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps.
Event information is displayed in columns.
Configuration Type
Select Default to view the default events configured for
the client. Select Custom to expand the window to display a
list of event sources and a list of events that can be configured.
With the window expanded, you can add events to the default
configuration and remove events.
Event Log
The Windows NT Event Log to which the event is written.
Double-click this field for an event to display the event's
properties. The following are some examples of events:
Application
The event is from the Windows NT Application Event
Log.
Security
The event is from the Windows NT Security Event Log.
System
The event is from the Windows NT System Event Log.
Source
The software (an application, a component of an application, or
a component of the operating system) that logged the event.
Event ID
The number (unique within each event source) that identifies an
event.
Severity
The type of event: Success, Informational,
Warning, or Error.
Count
The number of times an event must occur before an SNMP trap is
generated. If a time is specified, the minimum count value is 2;
the first occurrence of the event starts the timer.
Time
The length of time in which count number of
events must occur to generate an SNMP trap.
Description
A description of the event. This field can contain
string-replacement characters (%1, %2, %n). When the event
occurs, these characters are replaced by strings that vary
according to how and why the event was generated. This field cannot
be edited.
Use the following buttons to specify events to be translated to
SNMP traps:
Edit expands the window, in which you can add events to
be translated to SNMP traps.
When the window expands, the button label changes to
View, which returns the window to its original
size.
Add
Adds the selected event to the list of events to be translated
(at the top of the window).
Remove
Removes the selected event at the top of the window to the list
of events to be translated to SNMP traps.
Find
Opens the Find dialog box, in
which you can search for a specific event.
Event Sources
Displays a directory tree structure that you can expand and
collapse to locate possible events. The events for each folder are
listed in the Events window. These two windows are displayed
only if you select the Custom configuration type at the top
of this dialog box.
Events
Displays all the possible events for the folder highlighted in
the Event Sources window. These two windows are displayed
only if you select the Custom configuration type at the top
of this dialog box.
