In SMS, you maintain security by specifying the rights that a Windows NT user or user group has on various SMS security objects — collections, packages, advertisements, and status objects. Sometimes, you will want to limit the permissions of some administrators to only the specific collections that those administrators work with.
Collection limiting is limiting the security rights of a specific administrator to a particular collection. Sometimes an administrator is concerned with only a subset of users at a site. You can limit the permissions to only that collection of users so the system administrator can perform any SMS operations on that collection, but not on the other collections.
For example, if you have the Remote Control security permissions for a collection, you can use Remote Tools on any client in that collection. If any of the clients in that collection belong to any other collections, you can also use Remote Tools on those clients when they are in the other collections. That is, if Client A is in the collection you manage and if it is also in Collection B, you can manage Client A from Collection B as well.
