Collected files take up space in the SMS site database. For this reason, you might want to limit how long these files are kept. To specify how long SMS keeps collected files, you can configure the Database Maintenance Delete Aged Collected Files task (in Site Settings). By default, SMS retains collected files for 90 days.
Be careful when you collect large files from clients, because the collection process creates two additional copies of a file on the client: the copy that is appended to the inventory file, and the temporary file used to create the copy for the inventory file. The temporary file is deleted by Software Inventory Agent, unless it encounters processing errors.
Note If the sum of collected files size on a client is larger than the maximum data size per client specified on the File Collection tab in the Software Inventory Client Agent Properties dialog box, the files will not be appended to the inventory file. (The maximum total size allowed is 20 MB.) A status message will then be sent to the site that requested the file.
