About Advertisements

Advertisements are evaluated by SMS to determine which clients receive a specific program that runs on their computers. An advertisement specifies:

When you create an advertisement, you can require a program to run at a specified time by defining an assignment. Assigned programs are mandatory, although you can allow users to run programs independent of the assignment schedule.

After an advertisement is created, SMS copies it to the CAPs in the site, where the Advertised Programs Client Agent reads it. If a client belongs to the collection specified in an advertisement and matches the platform requirements for the program, it receives the information. Depending on the settings in the advertisement, one of the following occurs:

If the package, program, or advertisement properties are modified, SMS updates the information on the CAPs to reflect the changes.
