When the Topology, client, and client operating system Network Discovery type is selected for a site, SMS discovers routers, subnets, potential clients, and their operating systems and stores the resource information in the SMS site database. (Operating system information is needed for collections that depend on operating system type.)
The following diagram shows what this type of Network Discovery finds when it runs on Server 1 with 0 router hops specified: subnet D, Router 1, all potential clients on subnet D, and their operating system types and versions.
