Mobile Device Manager Administrator Tools lets system administrators and Help Desk personnel perform management operations on MDM system components and managed Windows Mobile devices. MDM architecture provides remote management of MDM system components and managed devices through both a graphical user interface (GUI) console and a command line-based Windows PowerShell console.

MDM Administrator Tools minimize functionality duplication by adding extensions to existing tools such as the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), the Group Policy Editor and the PowerShell Console.

The following lists MDM Administrator Tools.

Administrator Tool Description

MDM Management Console

MDM Console is a GUI-based management tool. It is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC 3.0) snap-in that lets administrators control managed Windows Mobile devices, and any computer that is running MDM Gateway Server.

MDM Group Policy Extensions

MDM extensions to the GPMC snap-in lets administrators push MDM group policies to managed devices and it enforces those policies. The GPMC extensions can assign specific Group Policy objects (GPOs) to Organizational Units (OUs), security groups, and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) filters. If it is required, the GPMC extensions can block specific managed devices from receiving policies.

MDM Software Distribution Console

MDM Software Distribution Console provides remote access to the Windows Update for Windows Mobile download service server. It enables administrators to manage and distribute software and firmware to managed devices from any computer in any domain that has a trust relationship with the Windows Update for Windows Mobile server domain.

MDM Shell

MDM Shell is built on Microsoft Windows PowerShell technology. It provides a command-line interface that enables automation of administrative tasks by using cmdlets (pronounced "command-lets").
