You can install Mobile Device Manager Administrator Tools on MDM Device Management Server, MDM Enrollment Server, or on any workstation that is in the same Active Directory forest as MDM components. You can install MDM Administrator Tools on a single computer, or install individual MDM tools on separate computers.

Installing Administrator Tools

The following procedures show you how to install MDM Administrator Tools. These procedures assume that you have satisfied all the hardware and software prerequisites. For the list of prerequisites, see the MDM Planning Guide at TechNet.

To install MDM Administrator Tools from the installation CD

  1. On the MDM CD, run Setup.exe.

  2. In the Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 Setupdialog box, in the Installsection, select Administrator Tools.

  3. In the Welcome to the System Center Mobile Device Manager-Administrator Tools Setup Wizard, choose Next.

  4. In the End-User License Agreementdialog box, read the agreement, and then select I Accept the License Terms.

  5. Choose Next.

  6. In the Custom Setupdialog box, select the components you want to install and then choose Next.

  7. In the Ready to Install Administrator Toolsdialog box, review the list of components to verify that the components list is correct, and then choose Install.

  8. Choose Finish.

To install MDM Administrator Tools at the command prompt

  1. Open the Command Prompt window and go to the Setup folder in the MDM CD directory.

  2. At the command prompt, type

    msiexec.exe /i AdminTools.msi /qn ADDLOCAL=”<Feature List>”
    /l*v <log file>
    

<log file>is the file name of the log file. The default location is %temp%\AdminTools.log.

Uninstalling Administrator Tools

The following procedures show you how to uninstall MDM Administrator tools.

To uninstall MDM Administrator Tools by using the installation CD

  1. On the MDM CD, run Setup.exe.

  2. In the Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 Setupdialog box, in the Installsection, select Administrator Tools.

  3. In the Welcome to the System Center Mobile Device Manager-Administrator Tools Setup Wizard, choose Next.

  4. In the Change, repair, or remove installationdialog box, choose Remove.

  5. In the Ready to remove Administrator Toolsdialog box, choose Remove.

  6. Choose Finish.

To uninstall MDM Administrator Tools by using the command prompt

  1. Open the Command Prompt window and go to the Setup sub directory in the System Center Mobile Device Manager CD directory.

  2. At the command prompt, type

    msiexec.exe /x AdminTools.msi /qn /l*v <log file>
    

    <log file>is the file name of the log file. The default location is %temp%\AdminTools.log.

To uninstall one or more MDM Administrator Tools features by using the command prompt

  1. Open the Command Prompt window and go to the Setup sub directory in the MDM CD directory.

  2. At the command prompt, type

    msiexec /i AdminTools.msi /qn REMOVE="<Feature List>" /l*v
    <log file>
    

    <log file>is the file name of the log file. The default location is %temp%\AdminTools.log.

    <Feature List>can include one or more of the following items separated by commas:

    • SOFTWARE_DISTRIBUTION

      MDM Software Distribution Console extensions

    • MDM_MANAGEMENT

      MDM Console extensions

    • GROUP_POLICY_EXT

      MDM Group Policy extensions
