Step 1-12: Install Configuration Manager 2007 R3

When the other products and technologies have been installed, install Configuration Manager 2007 R3. Before doing so, however, extend the Active Directory schema so that computers can locate the distribution points, service locator points, and other server roles. Also, you can extend the schema after you have installed Configuration Manager 2007 R3.

After extending the Active Directory schema, install Configuration Manager 2007 R3. The configuration of WDG-MDT-01 supports Configuration Manager 2007 R3 for this sample. The configuration of computers in the production network may vary. To find out more about the prerequisites for installing Configuration Manager 2007 R3, see Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Supported Configurations.

To install Configuration Manager 2007 R3:

1. Install Configuration Manager 2007 SP2.

2. Install the Configuration Manager 2007 R3 prerequisite hotfix.

3. Install Configuration Manager 2007 R3.

To install Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

1. Start the Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 splash screen.

2. On the Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 splash screen, under Install, click the Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 link.

The Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 Wizard starts.

3. Complete the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 Wizard using the information in Table 10. Accept the defaults unless otherwise specified.

Updated Prerequisite Components	1. Select the appropriate option for obtaining client prerequisite component files. Files can be downloaded as part of Setup, or they can be used from an alternate location to which the client prerequisite component files have already been downloaded. 2. Click Next.
Updated Prerequisite Component Path	1. Specify the path to store client prerequisite component files downloaded during Setup or the path to the alternate location to which client prerequisite component files have previously been downloaded. Note You can use the Setup command-line option Setup /download path_to_files to download client prerequisite component files without running the complete Configuration Manager Setup Wizard. 2. Click Next.
Settings Summary	Click Next.
Installation Prerequisite Check	Click Begin Install.
Setup Action Status Monitoring	1. Review the status of the actions till all actions are complete. 2. Click Next.
Completing the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 Setup Wizard	Click Finish.

After the wizard finishes, Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 is installed.

To install the Configuration Manager 2007 R3 prerequisite hotfix

1. Browse to the E:\Source$\ConfigMgr_Hotfix folder in which you downloaded the 420678_ENU_i386.zip.exe file, which contains the hotfix.

2. Extract the hotfix file (SCCM2007-SP2-KB977384-ENU.msi) from the 420678_ENU_i386.zip.exe file into the E:\Source$\ConfigMgr_Hotfix folder.

3. Double-click SCCM2007-SP2-KB977384-ENU.msi.

The Software Update for ConfigMgr SP2 (KB977384) Setup Wizard starts.

4. Complete the Software Update for ConfigMgr SP2 (KB977384) Setup Wizard using the information in Table 11. Accept the defaults unless otherwise specified.

To install Configuration Manager 2007 R3

1. Start the Configuration Manager 2007 R3 splash screen.

2. On the Configuration Manager 2007 R3 splash screen, under Install, click the Configuration Manager 2007 R3 link.

The Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Wizard starts.

3. Complete the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Wizard using the information in Table 12. Accept the defaults unless otherwise specified.
