Creating or Editing Virtual Machine Template Groups

Use the following procedures to create or edit a virtual machine template group.

To create a virtual machine template group

  1. In the Actions pane, under Update Virtual Machine Templates, click New Group.
Note   If you cannot view the Actions pane, on the main toolbar, click Actions to display it.
  2. On the Create a Virtual Machine Template Group page of the New Virtual Machine Template Group Wizard, type a name and a description for the group. You can use the description to help identify the group, for example if the group name is standardized and you need additional "friendly" information to easily identify the group.
  3. If your Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) system has more than one library server, expand the VMM library server drop-down list, and then click the name of the VMM library server that holds the virtual machine templates with which you want to work.
  4. In the Available templates list, select the virtual machine templates to place in this group, click the arrow button to move them into the Selected templates list (click the double-arrow button to move all of the virtual machine templates into the list), and then click Next.
  5. On the Create Template – Virtual Machine Association page of the wizard, under Select Template, expand the drop-down list to select the template that you want, under Select Virtual Machine, expand the drop-down list to select the virtual machine that you want, and then click Add to establish the association.
  6. Click Finish to complete the wizard.

To edit an existing virtual machine template group

  1. In the Groups pane of the tool console, expand the Virtual Machine Servicing Tool Groups tree node, and then click the Virtual Machines Template Groups node to display the current list of virtual machine template groups in the results pane of the tool console.
  2. In the list of virtual machine template groups, select the group you want to edit, and then in the Actions pane, under Update Virtual Machine Templates, click Edit Group.
  3. On the Edit Group page, you can change the description of the virtual machine template group, and you can add or remove virtual machine templates. Remember that all of the virtual machine templates and corresponding gold virtual machines in the group must be on the same VMM library server.
  4. Click Finish to complete the wizard.
