Configuration packages in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 distribute configuration items to mobile device clients in the same way packages distribute content to computer clients. Like packages for client computers, configuration packages use programs, distribution points, and advertisements to collections to distribute their content. For more information about packages, see About Packages.

Mobile devices do not honor configuration package access accounts. Mobile devices do not have domain accounts and therefore cannot be targeted by access accounts.

Configuration items contain settings to be applied to the mobile device and are distributed using Mobile Device Management configuration packages. For more information on configuration items, see About Configuration Items for Mobile Devices.

To create a configuration package for mobile devices

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Mobile Device Management.

  2. Right-click Configuration Package and select New Configuration Package. The Create Configuration Package Wizard opens.

  3. Complete the Create Configuration Package Wizard to create a new configuration package for mobile devices. For more information on the Create Configuration Package Wizard, see Create Configuration Package Wizard for Mobile Devices.

Configuration packages for mobile devices are created with a predefined program. Programs do not need to be created for configuration packages.
