A reporting point is a site server role in Configuration Manager 2007 that hosts the files used by Configuration Manager to display database information in Report Viewer. Reporting points communicate only with the local site database; thus, you implement reporting points only in primary sites, not secondary sites. Large organizations with numerous report users should consider planning for multiple reporting points. With multiple reporting points, you can provide different reporting point access URLs to different sets of users for accessing reports.
Requirements for the Reporting Point
For the reporting point site role to be added to a site system computer, the following components must be available:
- The site system computer must have Internet
Information Services (IIS) installed and enabled.
- Active Server Pages must be installed and
Note When you install ASP.NET on a Windows Server 2008 operating system reporting point, you must also manually enable Windows Authentication. For more information, see How to Configure Windows Server 2008 for Site Systems.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2 or
later must be installed on any server or client that uses Report
- To use graphs in reports, Office Web

Office XP, or Microsoft Office 2003) must be
Note Office Web Components is not supported on 64 bit operating systems. If you want to use graphs in reports, use 32 bit operating systems for your reporting points.
Creating Reporting Points
Configuration Manager 2007 does not automatically enable reporting points. You must enable all reporting points as required to provide access to the reports in your site. To balance a heavy demand for reports in a larger site, you can enable more than one reporting point and then point different groups of users to different URLs for each reporting point. The first time Report Viewer is opened from the Configuration Manager console, you must select a default reporting point that is used when starting Report Viewer from the console. The default reporting point is modified from the Report Options dialog box after it is first configured. For more information about how to create a reporting point, see How to Create a Reporting Point.
