Use the Membership Rules page in the Configuration Manager 2007 New Collection Wizard to define rules that you can use to evaluate membership in the new collection and set the research update schedule.

Membership rules

Indicates the membership rules that are currently defined for the new collection.

The following options are available for managing membership rules:

  • Computer icon: Click to start the Create Direct Membership Rule Wizard, which enables you to select a specific resource to include in this collection.

  • Query icon: Click to open the Query Rule Properties dialog box, which enables you to define a new query-based membership rule.

  • Properties icon: Click to modify the selected membership rule.

  • Delete icon: Click to delete the selected membership rule.

The following columns are displayed for each membership rule:

  • Rule: Specifies the name of the membership rule.

  • Type: Specifies the type of the membership rule, either Direct (for a specific resource) and/or Query (for a query-based rule).

  • Limit To: Indicates whether the rule is limited to a collection.

    If the rule is limited, the name of the collection that limits the rule appears. If the rule is not limited, <Unlimited> appears.

Update this collection on a schedule

Specifies if the collection membership will be updated on a specific schedule.

To set a specific schedule for updating the collection, click the Schedule button.


Goes to the previous page of the wizard.


Goes to the next page of the wizard.


Goes to the Summary page of the wizard.


Discards the settings and exits the wizard.
