You can prioritize various types of SMS data that are passed
from site to site, such as status messages, inventory
MIF files, and site control files. There are three priorities —
low, medium, and high — used in two ways:
As relative rankings by SMS Replication Manager to determine
which data is sent first. High-priority data is sent before medium,
which is sent before low. For example, you can configure SMS to
replicate the site control file at high priority, status messages
at medium priority, and MIF files at low priority, which causes SMS
to send site control files first, status messages second, and MIF
files last.
As restrictions by sender addresses. You can
configure sender addresses to pass data with a specific priority
during certain times of the day. For example, you can modify an address to pass only
high-priority data between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Medium- and
low-priority data would wait during those hours and would be passed
only between 5:00 P.M. and 8:00 A.M.
Note that these priorities are not intrinsic to the data; they
can be changed. For example, in a hierarchy where site A is the
parent of site B, and site B is the parent of site C, a status
message could travel from C to B at high priority, based on the
filter rules configured at site C, but could then travel from B to
A at low priority, based on the filter rules configured at site
B.
