In the SMS Administrator console, you can use Data Processing and Storage Component Configuration to configure updates to database statistics based on thresholds. When a specified number of MIF files or DDRs are processed, you can trigger an update that is supplementary to any scheduled update of the statistics.
You can also create warning status messages for an SMS site database that is filling beyond the threshold you set.
SQL Server maintains database statistics on the distribution of key values in each database index. Database indexes are database devices created on SQL Server database tables to speed up data retrieval. Searching indexed tables is much faster than searching non-indexed tables.
SQL Server uses database statistics to select indexes to use during query processing. When an indexed column changes by a large percentage, the distribution of key values also changes. Updating statistics improves the accuracy of searches and optimizes your queries.
Database statistics are updated on a regular schedule as a database maintenance task. You can use Data Processing and Storage Component Configuration to add supplementary updates if threshold conditions occur.
You can also use Data Processing and Storage Component Configuration to create a status warning message when the database is becoming full.
