Software Metering Client Agent
Properties Dialog Box: General Tab
Use this tab to enable the Software Metering Client Agent and to
configure whether the client is in online mode (force real-time
license verification). When you do not force real-time license
verification, the client agent only tracks licenses in use.
Enable software metering on clients
Enables the Software Metering feature on all clients within
your SMS site. Note that you cannot enable metering selectively;you
must enable either all clients or no clients.
Retries
Allows you to specify the number of client attempts to connect
to the software metering database, and the timing of these
attempts. If you enable the Software Metering Client Agent, check
the default retry values for the client and change them if
appropriate.
Number of retries
The number of times that the client attempts to connect to the
software metering server. The default value is 1 attempt. Valid
entries range from 1 through 100 attempts.
Delay before retrying
The number of minutes that the client should wait before
retrying. The default is value 15 minutes. Valid entries range from
1 through 60 minutes.
Note Software metering clients attempt
to connect to the software metering server as often as specified in
Number of retries. The client waits the number of minutes
specified in the Delay before retrying field, and then tries
to connect again. If a client cannot connect to a server after the
specified number of attempts, the client monitors software use
itself.
Force real-time license verification
Alters the default behavior of the Software Metering Client
Agent from offline mode, which is suitable to passive license
tracking, to online mode, which allows license balancing and
real-time license management. Online mode causes more network
traffic and license demand load on each software metering server,
but allows you to actively manage license usage in your
organization.
