If you complete the Scan Tool for Vulnerability Assessment Setup wizard with all of the default settings, you will have the following SMS objects:
- Two packages. One package is for the vulnerability assessment
tool, and the other package is for MBSA.
- Five programs. Of the two programs in the vulnerability
assessment tool package, one is the expedited program, which causes
a hardware inventory cycle to occur immediately after running the
tool. This can cause additional processor utilization on the client
and additional network traffic, so it is not used by default. There
are three programs available in the MBSA package to install MBSA on
the clients, but no advertisement is created by default.
- Two collections. The Vulnerability Assessment Tool
(pre-production) collection contains only the test computer
specified during Setup. The Vulnerability Assessment Tool
(default) collection contains the membership of the
pre-production collection (the designated test computer). When you
remove the collection limiting option, the default collection
contains all SMS clients that can run the inventory tool.
- One advertisement. The Vulnerability Assessment Tool
advertisement sends the non-expedited version of the vulnerability
assessment tool to the Vulnerability Assessment Tool
Important If you want to advertise the MBSA program to your client computers, you must create your own advertisement.
For the easiest administrative experience, allow Setup to create all of the default objects. Then, if MBSA is not already installed on your client computers, create an advertisement to send the MBSA program to the default collection. View the reports to verify that the test computer runs the vulnerability assessment tool correctly, and then remove the collection limiting option.
