As you plan your infrastructure in accordance with the MOF Process Model, you can use System Center Capacity Planner 2007 for your pre-deployment sizing scenarios. Pre-deployment sizing helps you understand and predict the performance of a simulated hardware and software infrastructure by using your input, performance modeling, and simulation. Pre-deployment also does the following:
- Helps you determine the hardware that is needed to implement an
application deployment.
- Helps you determine what users are likely to experience when
they are using your planned infrastructure and whether Service
Level Agreements (SLAs), Operating Level Agreements (OLAs), and
Operating Level Requirements (OLRs) are met or not.
- Helps you determine the performance and capacity of the
simulated infrastructure so that you can most effectively balance
performance, capacity, and cost.
In this Capacity Planner scenario for pre-deployment sizing, you review pre-deployment best practices and application model technology. You also review using a subset of Capacity Planner features to quickly produce an initial capacity model. You can fine-tune the initial capacity model in subsequent scenarios to produce more accurate capacity models.
The following topics of this section provide background information and the steps needed to produce an initial capacity model:
