Computer discovery rules specify the criteria that are used to add computers to a management group. By default, agents are automatically installed on computers that meet these criteria when computer discovery is run.
After you run the Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard, the rule applied to discovered computers is listed in the Navigation pane, under the Administration/Computers node.
There may be circumstances in your environment where you do not want to install agents on a new computer, but want to discover a computer and put it in unmanaged mode, or use agentless management. You can create a computer discovery rule to achieve this result.
Use the MOM Administrator console to create a computer discovery rule.
To create a computer discovery rule
After you create the rule, you can run computer discovery to add computers to the management group.
You can also wait and let MOM discover the new computers. To learn more about computer discovery, see Global Settings Properties: Discovery
To run computer discovery
- In the Detail pane, click on the rule or rules that you want to use.
- In the Navigation pane, right-click Computer Discovery Rules, and then click Run Computer Discovery Now.
