Alerts help you analyze events and performance thresholds to detect conditions and ensure that Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 brings the condition to your attention. Typically, alerts mean that the condition indicates potential problems. You can also create alerts that indicate informational events. Several processing rules can generate alerts, along with other actions:
You can assign more than one alert to an event. For example, a hard disk failure event can generate a Critical Error alert that initiates a paging response. An administrator is paged with the pertinent information about the hard disk failure. The same hard disk failure event can also generate an Error alert that sends an SNMP trap to an administrator.
