The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager includes a performance data collection engine that is used to query performance counter objects on computers running Exchange 2010. For this Operations Manager rule, data is collected by using the performance counter specified in the Details table.

Rule Name

The Exchange information store: RPC Requests - sustained for 5 minutes - Yellow (>750).


The RPC Requests performance counter records the number of client computer requests that are currently being processed by Microsoft Exchange. The counter has a maximum value of 2000. After the Exchange store has 2,000 remote procedure call (RPC) operations being processed, it denies any new connections. On a healthy server, the number of outstanding requests should be fewer than 1,000. If the number is greater than 1,000 for a sustained time, this indicates that RPCs are backed up and are waiting to be processed. It also indicates that client computers are probably experiencing delays.

This alert indicates that RPC requests have been greater than 750 for five minutes. This alert may be caused by increased RPC load or by a bottleneck in one or more resources.

User Action

To resolve this problem, determine the resources that are creating a bottleneck, and then try to mitigate the problem. Possible bottlenecks are disk reads or writes, processor time, available memory, and network configuration.
