This alert is generated when DPM cannot start a recovery, a consistency check, or a replica creation job for the designated computer.


Review the alert details in Data Protection Manager (DPM) Administrator Console and take the appropriate action.

Possible causes for the alert include the following:

  • A protection agent issue, including bad version or agent not reachable

  • Any VSS issues, such as problems with backing up data

  • In a cluster scenario, after initialization of one node, if any other node in the cluster is down, unreachable, and so on

The job initialization failure also generates a "Replica inconsistent" alert. DPM will not perform the replica creation until all of the nodes in the cluster initialize successfully.

Follow the recommended action in the alert to retry the job.

Resolved when: Protection for the designated computer is configured successfully; the protection job starts successfully.
