This alert is generated when the recovery data for a specified computer in a protection group resides on a volume that Data Protection Manager (DPM) cannot detect. All subsequent protection activities relating to this volume will fail until the volume is brought back online or until the replica is re-created.
Causes
DPM is unable to detect the volume or disk where the recovery points are stored. Possible causes for the alert include the following:
- The volume is offline.
- The replica is missing.
Resolutions
The error conditions and recommended actions associated with each “Volume missing” alert are provided in the alert details.
- Verify that the disk containing the replica volume and the
recovery point volume is shown in Disk Management.
- If you are unable to locate the volumes in Disk Management, in
the Protection task area of DPM Administrator Console, stop
protection of the data source using the Delete replica
option, and then add the data source to a protection group
again.
For information about how to check the status of the replica, see Working with Replicas.
To reallocate the replica, stop protection, delete the replica, and restart protection, see Working with Protection Groups.
When the volume is detected again or the replica is reallocated, the state of the replica is changed from missing to active and DPM can protect and recover data from that volume.
Resolved when: DPM detects a volume, or the replica is reallocated.
