If you are upgrading a protection agent that is installed on a computer that is not connected to the network, you cannot perform a connected agent upgrade. You must perform the upgrade in a non-active domain environment. The DPM server will show that the protection agent update is pending until the client computer is connected to the network.

This topic describes how to update protection agents for both connected and non-connected client computers.

To update a protection agent for a connected client computer

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, click Management on the navigation bar, and then click the Agents tab.

  2. In the display pane, select the client computers on which you want to update the protection agent.

    Note
    The Agent Updates indicates, by computer, when a protection agent update is available. If updates are not available for any of the protected computers, the Update action in the Actions pane is disabled.
  3. Click Update Agents to begin installing the updated protection agents on the selected computers.

  4. In the Enter Credentials dialog box, type the user name and password for a domain account that is a member of the local administrators group on all the selected computers, and then click OK.

    Note
    You do not have to restart the computer to update the protection agents.

    A status box is displayed to indicate whether the installation is successful.

To update a protection agent on a disconnected client computer

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, click Management on the navigation bar, and then click the Agents tab.

  2. Click Update Agents to begin installing the updated protection agents on the selected computers.

  3. In the display pane, Agent Pending appears next to the client computers that are not connected to the network.

    After the client computer is connected to the network, Update Agents appears next to the client computer.

  4. In the Enter Credentials dialog box, type the user name and password for a domain account that is a member of the local administrators group on all the selected computers, and then click OK.

    A status box is displayed to indicate whether the update is successful.
