Introduction

The HP Insight Inventory Collector (also known as Collect) uses Insight Management Agents to obtain HP-specific hardware information from Microsoft® System Management Server and System Center Configuration Manager client servers and adds this information to the database of the site server.

The system inventory information that Collect obtains displays in the Resource Explorer for the client server.

You must follow procedures described in this document to advertise the Insight Inventory Collect to the client servers.

The HP Insight Inventory Collector runs on each specified client, creating a series of intermediate .MIF text files that contain inventory information about specific client servers. The SMS and Configuration Manager hardware inventory agent processes these files and outputs a single .MIF file to the site server to update the appropriate database.

NOTE: Inventory information generated by Collect is retrieved by the SMS and Configuration Manager agent during hardware inventory. This information is not available until the next hardware inventory scan is completed.

The Collect utility is tested and supported through specific ProLiant Support Packs and Integrity Support Packs. See the latest Release Notes for further information. The Resource Explorer view of certain hardware information retrieved by the Collect utility might contain incorrect values or missing information with newer HP ProLiant Support Packs and HP Integrity Support Packs.
