Administrative issues

The following sections provide troubleshooting information for administrative issues with the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007.

  • Operations Manager 2007 is not discovering HP ProLiant servers

  • Working with agentless management

Operations Manager 2007 is not discovering HP ProLiant servers

HP ProLiant servers might not be discovered by Operations Manager 2007 for several reasons. Verify that the following conditions exist on all HP ProLiant servers to be managed:

  • Either an HP SNMP management environment or an HP WMI management environment is properly installed and configured.

  • On an SNMP management environment, SNMP services are configured properly and running. For more information, see the "Management protocol requirements" section in the HP Server Configuration Guide for System Center Integrations.

  • On an SNMP management environment, HP Insight Management Agents are installed and active. For more information, see the "Insight Management Agent requirements" section in the HP Server Configuration Guide for System Center Integrations.

  • On an HP WMI management environment, HP Insight Management WBEM Providers are installed and active. For more information, see the "Insight WBME Management Providers requirements" section in the HP Server Configuration Guide for System Center Integrations.

  • The appropriate HP management pack was imported and installed successfully. For information on installing the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007, see the "Installation" section in the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007 User Guide.

  • The Operations Manager 2007 Agent has been configured to include the target HP servers as managed computers. For more information, see the HP ProLiant Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007 User Guide.

  • Confirm that Operations Manager 2007 has the appropriate permissions to manage the target servers. On the Operations Manager 2007 host server, examine the contents of the Operations Manager 2007 Log under the Windows® Event Viewer for warning messages generated by the Operations Manager 2007 Services. For more information, see the Microsoft® Operations Manager 2007 user documentation.

  • If Run As Profiles are configured, ensure that the HP Server Discovery account and HP Server Monitoring Account profiles are configured with Run As Accounts that have sufficient privileges to perform discovery and monitoring of HP Proliant servers. For more information, see the "Run As Profiles section" in the HP Server Management Packs for Operations Manager 2007 User Guide.

Working with agentless management

Agentless management is not recommended for long term production use. It affects performance and behaves differently, especially when there is a problem in the network environment. Agentless has an agent running on Operations Manager 2007 server. It executes all management pack monitors controls on the Operations Manager 2007 server remotely, communicating to the managed node over the network. If there is a network disruption, all monitors will fail due to the configuration characteristics. See the Microsoft® user documentation for proper agentless deployment.
